A Feather Pen

When someone thinks of a powerful instrument that changes lives, effected people’s ways of thinking, has used in battles, and in art, they assume it is this mythical device that is found only in our imagination. However, an apparatus such as a quill pen is more powerful then any sword. This writing implement was an essential instrument in our history. “We the People…..,” “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?.....” “Four score and seven years ago….,” are rousing words that were written with a feather pen.
Without this important tool, our ancestors would not have been able to record history. In addition, story tellers would not have been able to create their masterpieces using their words and wisdom. Our knowledge originates from our recorded past. This makes me wonder how different our lives would be if we did not have the historical documents written by the feather pen.

A Simple Ball Point Pen

Looking back through history, you can’t help but realize how much technology has evolved and how much it has affected our lives. An example would be a simple writing implement such as the ball point pen. The quill and ink bottle, it served as an important tool to our society and our history. The disadvantage of the feather pen was that it always had to rely on the ink bottle. In 1888, John Loud discovered that it would be more advantageous if the ink was within the writing implement itself. This creation made it easier for people like Martin Luther King to write speeches such as “I Have a Dream.” The words that came out of that pen changed American’s ways of thinking, and our way of living by expressing the importance of equality. The pen is essential to our society. Without it, records would not be recorded, speeches would not be written and stories would not be read.

Wacom Pen and Tablet

Everyday, people are trying to make our lives easier by advancing technologically. Some examples of improvements in technology would be the progression from the type writer to computer, horse and buggy to a car, or even a feather pen to a wacom pen. The wacom pen and tablet is a new devise that sets art into its new dimension of creativity. The possibilities are endless with all the different digital textures, colors, mediums, and filters you can add to your images. Not only does it bring your art to life, it widens the range of ideas your imagination can develop.
This affects our ability to be more artistic. When the majestic Sistine Chapel was painted, Michelangelo only had the paint on his palette, a paint brush, and a single candle for light. Now, we have the resources of the computer and the ability to undo mistakes, edit photos, and download images references right at our fingertips.
